Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? backwards circles--only one direction

Anyone else have the problem of only doing them in one direction, with
laughable results in the other? It would be fun to be able to change it up.

Can you write with your left hand as well as you can with your right?

(Assuming you are right handed)

no--nor can I skateboard or surf goofy-footed.
I'm not saying it should be natural--but I've seen people switch it up.

i think you first have to be able to trackstand to both sides in order to master backwards circles in both directions. i can only trackstand one way, and in turn can only do backwards circles in one direction.

Probably so. All that results when I try it to the other direction is
some pretty funny falling down and cursing-

Pretty much true. My off side back circle improved when my off side trackstand improved. You should practice trackstanding on both sides anyway. You never know where your feet will be if you're boxed in in traffic. Falling on cars doesn't make their drivers happy.

Here's my short vid. I can do both sides even though it only shows one direction.
The key is being very comfy with trackstanding on both sides.

I'm learning to unicycle. Right now, I can turn right pretty easily, but can't turn left for anything.

I'll try and get someone to lend me a uni to try next summer...

I can sort of do a bw circle in the "other" direction, too. Shakily and once out of 3 tries but I'm still proud
