I was born and raised in miami. Its only worth living here if you have good enough friends. How Kol.klink said for young people it does suck. Unless you're into clubing and enjoy competeing with an entire city to see who has the best everything. It's all about showing off and being the best "One-Upper". The music/bands suck (with the exception of maybe 1?), cycling sucks, majority of the people suck, public transportation sucks.
The rest of florida I cant say.
I've traveled alot and i can honestly say cities like chicago, NY, LA, and the majority of other major cities immdeatly make me wish i didnt live here. I never understand how Miami has been one of those must see places listed with some of the cities i stated before. Other than beachs and night life, but In my opinion the beach is infested with the same jerks that love the night life. Club's have never been my thing.
Sorry you didnt enjoy your stay Kol.klink. I can't blame you. If you're ever coming back to this area be sure to travel with a friend or have arrangements to meet/hang out with someone

I've lived in Gainesville for 11 years and love it. Though I do have to say I would never live anywhere else in Florida. Being that Gainesville one of the southernmost cities/towns to have deciduous trees, we have a nice fall and fortunately not the sand/palmettos that everything south of us is blessed with.

I went to school there; Go Gators!
I grew up in Miami and it was great until the Carribean Invasion. Now it's crowded with crazy people who all have guns and are looking for a chance to use them.
Also, have you ever noticed that any new scam that comes out usually starts somewhere in Florida?
L.A. has it's problems but it beats Miami by a universe. I don't miss the bugs or humidity, either.

I had a great ride this weekend from West Ft. Lauderdale to the Beach. 75 degrees and a slight breeze.

Start at Nob Hill Road/Broward Boulevard, head S. along Peters Rd and Davie Blvd cross 17th Street Cswy Bridge to Beach. Go east along beach to Atlantic Blvd. Back home via West on Atlantic Blvd and McNab Rd. About 50 mile ride round trip. Left out a few streets but thats the general directions. https://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united...tion/438889682
Can be done in 20+ miles via alt routes with less of a ride along the beach.

I can't and won't speak about Miami.
Orlando however, 13 years here. Riding is actually really quite nice. Once you get out of the city there are miles and miles of quiet roads with rather large rolling hills.
For New Year's Day, I did about 60 miles of rolling hills - on my fixie - in shorts!
