stuck/stripped chainring bolt

hey guys i already posted this in the bike mechanics forum so sorry for the cross post but i figured some of you guys might have some insight into this as well...

Hey there, I have a sugino crankset on my bike and i got 4 of the 5 bolts out without issue but when i went to remove the fifth the bugger would not come out and i ended up stripping the slotted back side out and the more i tried the worse it got, i think when the shop initially installed it they might have cross threaded it and thats why i'm having issues. but long story short does anyone have a solution to this that doesnt involve drilling the whole bolt out?
thanks ahead of time for the help.

Super glue something to the back of the bolt, those things aren't on there very tight.

Vise grips? It works for stripped seatpost binder bolts.

Drilling really isnt that bad a few minutes and a few drill bits later and you're done just like drilling out a rivet people do it all the time

I had this same problem, I used an ez-out screw extractor and it took 5 seconds.

edit: the allen side of the bolt was stripped out, not the slotted side. It still might work though.

I would drill it out and just replace it.

One of these may be able to get a frogs hair hold on the slotted back half of your chainring bolt... while using the allen to keep trying to loosen... (till that strips too... https://www.xtraktortools.com/index1.HTM

I'd also drill it and be done... B sure and remember the anti-seize when reinstalling!!

Sometimes you can hammer a screwdriver down into the (ex-) slotted head side enough to "reslot" it, and then either superglue or JB-Weld the screwdriver tip to it, to get enough leverage to get it out. Seriously, though, drilling is the safest and easiest way to fix this. That's why everyone keeps recommending it. A bike shop will probably do it for $5 or less. It's worth it just to save the chainring.
