Fyxomatosis Saves the Day
A big thank you to Andy White.
And a big **** you to the Australian Post
A few months ago I decided to stop riding my steel frame due to undiagnosible noises. After overhauling the bike, the creaking noises I'd been hearing didn't stop so I figured it must be something to do with the frame. In the traffic here is not a place that you want to be while uncertain about the structural integrity of your frame. In that time I was frantically trying to source a descent frame from the web, ebay, friends in the states. I wasn't willing to pay over $150 for shipping just to get any ordinary frame. I was on the verge of getting a Soma at close to cost from the states when I remembered that a few months before I had seen an aluminum frame in my size on the fyxomatosis site. I checked it out and it was still there. A Daccordi track 60x58. It was AL, which I had never ridden before, but for the price I could get a great quality frame that I could actually race in the future and support someone in the scene instead of some big company (Soma's not so bad but Hawley takes their cut too).
So I talked to Andy about it, sent out the paypal, and on December 21st, he threw it in the mail. Long after he wanted to be doing nothing but relaxing for the holidays I'm sure. I checked the tracking info every day. On the 23rd it went to Melbourne to be processed for international shipping. Not bad. I'd hoped to get it before christmas, but figured I probably didn't have a chance. I kept checking daily. Three days, five days. Still in Melbourne, "wating for processing". Starting to get pissed. The new year rolls around with no change online. I figured it's christmas, post takes a while. On the 3rd I finally checked the mail at the hotel where I'd had it sent. In it was a little note from the Thai Post saying that I had a package from Australia. Dated December 25th.
After a descent amount of swearing and waiting (it was saturday afternoon and they wouldn't be open again till monday) I went to pick it up. I got many glares from passers by as I tore open the box and shreaded the packing onto the street. But burried inside 15 square meters of bubble wrap (I would question the necessity of this amount of packing but I won't since I would have given my left testicle to see this frame arrive safely) was the most hideously beautiful frame I'd ever seen. I spent the next hour explaining to the people gathered around what type of bike it was and why I paid $500 for a piece of aluminum that they thought they could buy for $40 at the shop down the street. As I said, I've never owned aluminum before, nor anything with neon green on it. And I think I have my friend Josh's Rossin beat in the logo department. The frame says "Daccordi" 11 times on it. It is definately not anything that I would have thought I would ride. But in the few short trips I've made since getting all the bits swapped, I'm loving it.
So once again, Thank you Andy. You were awesome to work with. And the AU Post isn't really so bad. That stuff got here quick. I guess I just need to check the mail more.
Pictures are coming. As soon as I can get to a computer where I can resize them.

Omg. Kyle. Neon green? Really? Holy weird. Our bikes will make a statement when they finally get to ride together!

Not the final incarnation, but I wasn't ready to keep it in the corner waiting for parts. Being off the bike for two months is going to make for a lot of work getting back into shape. This position almost killed me riding home last night and its more relaxed than I used to commute on.
I can't decide if its going to get painted or not. I'm scared that the current paint might start to grow on me...
Although sometimes it is nice to be reminded that I'm being supported by "Megatube Alloy" using a "Uniblock Brazing System". And for those times when I can't remember the name of the company that made my bike.

it's not the prettiest frame ever, but DAMN does it look cool. i wouldn't paint simply for the sheer enjoyment of owning a brashly painted frame that no one else would have the balls to be seen in public with.
pure sex.

I've got to talk to some paint shops around here about what they can do. I've found one that does laquer. No way I'm going to powdercoat this frame. You can't really tell but the current paint is really quite nice. It has a great metalic flake to it. If I do get it done I'm leaning toward something similar to the silver. I may get someone to paint a dragon on it or something. I've seen some amazing paint jobs on tuk-tuks around here.
Front wheel's a 700. Old record road hub to MA-40. It does look to be a different size when compared to the deep-v.
By the way, being out of shape and quite inflexible at the moment has made me appreciate the position risers and a BMX stem could put me in. Maybe thats why... Nah.

if you paint it go full custom like a faux-Vespa in Bankok's Chinatown.
But I like the obnoxious paint. I would however change the stickers to read solely 'megatube' and also mask the 'D' and add some letters to get 'accordion'

I'm going to hold off painting until I'm really sure I like the way it rides. So far it's been awesome. I'm pretty sure this is the lightest bike I've ever had (even though it feels like its still pushing 19lb b/c of my components).
