Quick Question; 1/8th chain/cog with 3/32 chanring?
I bought a 1/8 cog before getting my kilo and realizing it was a 3/32. i went to yojimbo's and grabbed a 3/32 chain and then went back to my LBS where i got my 1/8th cog to switch it for a 3/32. the guy there said that a 1/8 cog and chain will work fine with a 3/32 chainring, but he said "its fine for road but dont ride it on the track"
what does that mean specifically? If i get a high enough cadence will it throw my chain? He also said skidding on it will be fine but is that true?
I just want to know the possible repercussions of using a 1/8th chain/cog on a 3/32 chainring.

I've been doing this for a couple years. I have had a few instances of dropping my chain, but I'm blaming that on the fact that the chainrings I've used haven't been the roundest coupled with a chain that was either a bit too tight or loose, not that it was 3/32. The few times that's happened have also only been during slow speed turns, not while going fast.
Other than that you'll probably just get a little more noise than normal, my drivetrains have never been the quietest, but I'm also not picky about riding a new chain on a used cog/chainring setup and all that.

3/32 chain + either 1/8 cog or 1/8 chainring = fail
3/32 chain + 3/32 cog AND 3/32 chainring = pass
1/8 chain + 1/8 or 3/32 cogs/chainrings = pass
3/32 chain + 3/32 cog AND 3/32 chainring = pass
1/8 chain + 1/8 or 3/32 cogs/chainrings = pass

You can run a 1/8th" chain with 3/32nd" chainring and/or rear cog. When I had my beach bike rentals, those came standred with 3/32nd", but I always replaced the chain with a 1/8th" chain.
