Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Need Some BB help

So my flite 100 is meant to fit 68x111 bottom brackets. The current bb in the bike is square taper, but im thinking of changing the cranks and thus the bb. I am thinking of getting a carbon crank with octalink bb but the one im thinking about is 68x109. Is there any way I can run the 68x109 in my frame or is it just a no no? Do they even make 68x111 octalink or isis bbs?

You can put any 68 BB in your bike. Each crankset has a specific BB length in order to give a specific chainline. Run the size BB that the crank manufacturer suggests.

Your frame is meant to have a 68 BB but the spindle length is based on the crank and not the frame. Case and point; Campy road cranks use 102mm spindles, whereas a lot of FSA road cranks use 108mm ISIS spindles. Both cranks and BB's would fit your bike.

The length of the spindle is only important if you are trying to fit a road crank onto your SS/FG bike and have a good chainline. If you are using a track crank, use the mnfd suggested spindle length and taper spec. You need to post what crank you are using at the very least to provide us enough info to help. If the BB interface is ISIS, FSA makes a track BB with 2 lockrings for an adjustable chainline:

Lenkeit's advice was good. Not sure why you needed to bump your thread twice in an hour and a half.... but perhaps your best bet would be to go to your LBS and purchase and install your parts.

To be blunt, the number of questions you urgently need on BB's is insane.

If you want instant gratification, go ask your LBS.
