Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

my conversion has braze ons to hold a frame pump. i used to only roll my driveside leg up, until once last year my non-drive side pant leg got caught on the braze on... havoc ensued.

but now on my iro i rarely roll up either leg... unless it's hot and i want some air getting up to my swamp ass.

Well, it's Monday and this is still swollen and bruised as hell. I'm gonna go to the Student Health Center, see if I can score some painkillers.

Joking aside, that's a wicked cool chainring you got there.
I am going to install BMX cranks on one of my bikes, too. BMX chainrings are just so fscking good looking.
you might be able to use track cranks with it, considering it's a spider.

I know that one is a spider. It was a segue for me to say that I'll be having a bike with actual BMX chainrings (not 5-arm bolted). I really like those BMX chainwheels, they have character.

And by "it" you mean the ankle, right? It's interesting that you actually didn't hit it, but it was the huge stress of the jeans' fabric caught in the crankarm. By the way, I think it must have been the crankarm fixing bolt - the one that protrudes on the side at the base of the crank. I have a pair of cranks like those, but I'm going to use a FSA crankset with 19mm spindle. Those just bolt on axially. Less likely to have that happen to me - I hope.

That said - dude, get well soon!!!

my friend just fractured his fibula... something like that in his ankle.

he rode his bike down here the night it happened, and now he can't walk for eight weeks and then after that he's gotta watch what he does. looks like i just acquired a foul weather bike.

Ankle bands work a lot more reliably than cuffing. If the goofy, reflective ones are too much for your taste, try military boot bands/"blousers".

Sorry to hear you ended up with a fracture. Only time I got wrapped up in the NDS was with a freewheel, and even that was a pretty good scare. Hope you heal quickly.

Yeah, it was my ankle. The very base of the fibula, really; it's out of whack, and pointed outwards on the x-ray. Anyway, the good part is that the doctor I'm working with is a sports-med doc, so she's really goal-oriented about getting me back on track. She's gonna let me pedicab in two weeks, maybe.

That's the silver lining. Bonus points if she's hot.
I was actually going to ask you if one can cycle with his foot in a cast.
