Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Very cool! You might want to post it in the old pics redux that kaiju-velo started a while ago.

BTW, that thread should have been stickied.

How about stickying the old pics redux thread? I see every now and then some old cycling pics posted here and there. It doesn't necessarily have to replace entire threads, but it would be nice to repost the old pics at least, in that thread. It's the only thread people didn't disagree about stuff in it.

Major Taylor:

Love the look of intensity. Look at how bent his right leg is at the bottom of the pedal stroke. Was there different theories on posture/saddle height back then?

That CAN'T be the top bottom of his pedal stroke is it? It looks like he'd have a very oddly proportioned truck/legs

aye, now that I look again it isn't the very bottom. those would be some short ass crankarms. doesn't look like it goes much further down though.

Look at his left crank arm. It looks like his cranks are parallel to the ground.

Bike racing was big back then. It was done inside large versions of the first picture.

^ That NPR clip was pleasant. I'm definitely going to have to make a trip down to Rochester once I get a proper track frame.
