Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I've been waiting for months.... I'm getting antsy! But while we wait, let's talk about how we're building it up!

Me: Orange 53cm. CXP22rims with Formula hubs. 1in threadless. Nashbar stem and bullhorns. Sugino 105 brake and crank. 42/15 gear ratio. San Marco Ponza Lux saddle. Powergrips.

not decided on the color

50cm, nitto b123, nitto jag 90mm, V deep v laced to phil, sugino mess cranks, sugino 75, 46/16, duraace cog, selle italia turbo.

that would be ideal, already have stem/bars and wheels/hubs

can't wait!

Yeah...but it's fifty bucks cheaper from Bikesdirect/Bikeisland! Plus there should be more colors and no decals.

Does that mean you intend to use the sugino 75 BB with messenger cranks? Won't work, wrong taper. Messenger cranks have bad chainline anyway, get something that works.

I thought it was the RDs with the bad chainline? Or is it everything but the 75s?

Messenger = RD with a "Messenger" chainring. 45mm chainline.

The XD has good chainline with a 107 bb, but the rings are 110 and that makes people angry around here.

whoa, you gots a whole lotta real nice components there - for such a cheap ass frameset.

I'm not saying it'll be a bad frame, just what mean is that after that build the only thing you can upgrade will be the frame.
ok, except maybe the crankset.

I just wonder does that make any sense, really?

Why not? It's cheaper in the long run.

Well, with those parts personally I'd hunt down a nice vintage (or not so vintage) lugged steel track frame instead but I guess that's just me.
