Shops in Chicago
Yo, I'm crossing the border and going to Chicago next weekend, so I figured I'm finally gonna grab a new bike to replace my last one that got ganked.
I'll be around the downtown area, so if anyone can hook me up with some spots to check out, I'd be stoked!
thanks

yojimbo's is fixed gear central - but he's got funny hours.
i'd tell you the trick to get in... but i think it be funnier to know that you'll spend an hour standing outside the door without any idea how to get in before someone else stops by and shows you how. enjoy!

Is the dude (Marcus?) at Yojimbo's gonna kick my ass for not being a messenger?
'cause I'm not going there just to get my ass kicked.

Yeah, Marcus is a real prick. He will definitely kick your ass for not being a messenger.
(marcus is pretty much the nicest/best bike shop dude ever.)

aww that sucks
I like when shop owners have a bit of sass.
Naw, I was just reading random reviews on it from that link above, and it seems that some "custies" are frightened of him.

if you're frightened of him then it's because you don't take the time/balls to actually talk to him.
and the address is on their website https://www.yojimbosgarage.com .

my second favorite shop other than yojimbo's is tati down in hyde park.
once again, weird hours. don't expect him to do any work on your bike though - he works almost exclusively with locals and i mean local-locals, if you're from a different part of town he'll more or less turn down your money. he stocks some really cool **** and puts together some really cool bikes.
most of the other shops are pretty run of the mill. not that they're bad, but yojimbo's and tati have the most character - they're also the most specialized so perhaps that has something to do with it.
