Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

That trick where you dismount a fixed gear bike by hopping to the rear.

This one.

Is it a bad idea to do it with a rear rack installed? Or did I just not do it right?

I probably have a nice bruise on my leg.

don't think to hard about it, there isn't much technique involved. just go for it until you get it.

i do an easier variation. i go nohanded, grab the nose of the saddle with one hand and jump off. you land normally and dont lose control of your bike. start slow then work up speed. really no use for this one except its easier to do at high speeds, so if ur in a hurry you dont have to waste time slowing down, or skid.

i don't think the rack should matter - just make sure you leg clears it. i even do it with clipless.

That's kind of what I did. It was on grass (I was more worried about falling). The bike leaned to one side, and that's how my leg hit.

tie cord to each side of handle bar

go nohanded

jump backwards

land butt on rack

replace feet on pedals

ride that **** around town baby cause a normal over the back dismount aint nothin!!!

there really shouldnt be a thread this long on it. just go out and try it, its probably the easiest "trick" you'll learn. im a total klutz with the inner ear balance of a new born, and i got this down on my 1st or 2nd try. compare that to track standing which took me forever.

with that kind of logic this forum would be a very boring place.

OP, how wide is the rack, out of curiosity?
