Anyone have a QUIET Surly cog?
My Surly cog is loud as hell and still hasn't quieted down after some riding. I think it's just the way the teeth are cut, it's very angular and square instead of tapered (more like the EAI design).

i have one of the old ones as well as one of the new ones w/ the drillium effect and they are both nice and quiet. were you using the current chain w/ another cog before you put the surly on?

never have heard a peep from mine, even when i put it together new chain+new cog = happy
but it does make sense that a new chain or new cog would make a little noise for the first few good miles.
Gotta wear down those sharp edges and high points.

No noise out of mine, either when it was new with a new chain and as it ages.

Pretty much silent here (1/8"), and I've usually run with really crappy chainlines to boot. I think it's pretty subjective to your entire setup.

it's probably the chain. I noticed this when I switched one out for another and it instantly became quiet.

I actually hear cricket noises when I ride.
Seriously, I hear a constant sound, but not really loud... but does get about twice as loud when I apply back pressure. I've never ridden another setup, so nothing to compare to.
KMC, Rocket Ring, Surly 17t - all 1/8th

yea rotafix is for if you don't have a chainwhip. I've used it plenty but if you don't like the looks of it just use the whip
