Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

asdfghjkl; you should get a bikesdirect fixed gear bike. THey are a very cheap (300ish) and simple way to try fixed gear and it's easy to thread on a freewheel or pay someone to do it.

Go for it (random string of letters). You could convert an old road bike (see sheldonbrown.com) if you are handy, or as was mentioned above go for the bikesdirect single speed.

They are fun.

That string of letters is not even close to random. They were chosen in that order to so that the keys would be less likely to jam on old typewriters.

And yeah, the BD bike is a good choice. It's also super easy to convert a bike, particularly if you just want to try singlespeed.
