Trek 2200 into fixed gear
I have a 2004 trek 2200 frame laying around in my garage and was wondering if it was possible to convert the bike into a a fixed gear.
Thanks... |

could anyone provide a link to the type of wheel I would need or a conversion kit.. I have wheels lying around the garage that I could use if conversion is possible.

If you want it to work well you need a wheel built around an Eno Hub as per post #2

If you are comfortable building your own wheelset, just get the eccentric hub and build it around a suitable wheel if you have one lying around. A much cheaper alternative would be to convert to a single-speed. That would simply be a matter of getting a relatively inexpensive conversion tensioner, removing your derailleurs and doing a few other relatively simple adjustments. |
You dont NEED to adjust your wheel tension, magic gears are do-able, though it would take some playing with cogs and chainrings and would probably largely not be worth it. You will probably be better off selling that frame and buying a different one, or just buying a different frame with horizontal dropouts or track ends.

Do it, it'll be badass. I just converted my friends trek 1000c with a white industries eno hub, all we had to do was relace the rear wheel ( used the same rim ) and take all the un-needed stuff off his bike, light as ****.

If you like the frame and it fits, I say get the eno hub and do it up. You can use that hub for any frame therefafter
