Fuji Track 08 vs. Bianchi Pista 08

I'm considering buying a fixed gear bike and the two main bikes I've really looked at are the Fuji track 08 and the Bianchi Pista 08. The Fuji Track is $420 and the Bianchi Pista is $650. I've been told numerous times that the Pista is the better bike, but it is a little more pricy than $420. If i were to negotiate the price of the pista, how much lower could i cut the total cost? There are so many things I'm considering since I'm absolutely new to fixed gears & I'm on a budget. On top of the price, my friend gets 15% off the total. What do you guys think is the better buy? Considering I'm new to fixed gears & on a budget?

Thanks!

people seem to love the fuji track the most, even though it's possibly the ugliest frame. go ride each one for a bit to see which one you prefer. but 15% off a $420 fuji track is tempting!

Fuji vs. Bianchi

yea the price sounds real good.
but is it worth it?
i would also get 15% off a bianchi pista...
what is the best deal?
quality?

I don't know anyone who thinks that the Fuji Track is better than a Pista. Both are perfectly adequate bikes, but the Pista clearly has more desirable "track geometry," and isn't obscenely ugly like the Fuji. Riders report that the Fuji seems "flexy," for what that's worth.

To the OP - Was it really necessary to start a separate thread about the Fuji Track?

sp00ki 03-10-08 06:39 PM

the fuji has worse components than the pista, which has sorta weak ones.
based on your other thread, i think it's in your best interest to do some research before settling on anything, as neither of these are the best bang for your buck.
instead of trying to go with the cheapest bike, pick a good budget and start there. you can't decide on a bike in a day. give it a couple of weeks of searching this forum.

If in the end you do decide on the fuji track, I remember hearing one of the bikes bikesdirect sells is the fuji track sans the fuji name and is cheaper, leaving you more money to upgrade if something breaks or you don't like the saddle or something... I want to guess it was the windsor the hour but I'm not sure

bonechilling 03-10-08 07:50 PM

Yeah, the Windsor Hour is the same frame and general components as the Fuji Track.

i hear everyone that doesn't own a fuji track bash it.
i don't think there ugly, but i own one, ya know.
if your gonna eventually change the wheelset or whatever, i'd go with the fuji. then you could upgrade the components as you get money.
then maybe spend good money on just a frame later.

in that case, go with the hour. still cheaper, and now comes in white.

what?
the components are, functionally, the same. the BP has truvative cranks, the FT has RPM. both have formula hubs and blah rims.

basically, it comes down to, the bianchi pista looks a bit better, but is ugly, and has a bit tighter geometry. the fuji, you save two hundred dollars and still have a totally respectable bike.

Yeah tomasini frames are way better

PapaLegba 03-11-08 06:12 PM

fuji is cheap for a reason.

sp00ki 03-11-08 06:13 PM

my bet is, she goes with a 300 track + 300 a-spoke.

where from philly are you?

djeddiebear 03-13-08 12:43 AM

I like the Fuji over the Bianchi. I've rode my friends extra Pistas around for maybe 100+ miles, but I still got the Fuji (twice!). I only used the stock components for maybe 15-20 miles, so I can't comment on them. My opinion, just get the Fuji and drop the extra money on functional (not aesthetic) modifications.
