Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

The 43cm Motobecane Messenger - anyone seen it?

I was looking to get this as a present for someone - and was thinking it would just be a cheaper version of the Fuji Track SE. Emailed bikes direct, and it sounds like it isn't - it's using 700c wheels and a sloping top tube. Just wanted to see how goofy it looks before putting money down on one. The response from bikes direct:

sorry - motobecane has not updated the geometry

we don't know until they do

at any rate - it would be proportionately smaller than the 49cm -

if the 49cm is a bit too large for her, then the 43cm would be the only other choice

PS

would figure the standover on the 43cm is about 5cm / 2 inches lower

yes - it uses 700c wheels -

the top tube is sloping

i got one for the girlfriend it runs 700's and has a slight sloping top tube, the top of the seat tube tube is about level with the top of the tire.. the geometry is really relaxed(long wheel base), i havent had a chance to measure its actual size but i doubt its an actual 43.. send me a message and i can come up with a picture for you.

I am looking at that size in the messenger(700c) and the fuji track(650c)...my girl is only about 5'...

I'd rather go with a 700c wheel due to availability. Good luck, please post pix of your decision.

I was just looking at the IRO "Heidi" frame, they state for people 5' and under...yeah and 650c wheels. $150 to 200 more than that Fuji or messenger...

Given that everyone knows these are both the same company, and bikedirect_com readily admits that it is him alone running the show, why does he insist on refering to himself in the third person? Why not just replace the word "motobecane" with "my taiwanese frame factory"?

He's buying mostly off the peg stuff from the frame factory, he's not sending them the geometry specs necessarily. If he just told them "make me a really small one" there's no reason to expect him to know the exact geometry.

oh that's cute.
It looks like the wheels and the chain ring might eat the frame.
