Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Lincoln, NE

I'm going to Lincoln, NE in two weeks for a few days to visit a friend and bringing my bike. I'm not asking about a scene, give me a shout since I'll probably be exploring the city/town.

There's actually quite a few people who ride around here. I have a swobo sanchez, my friend has one, and I know two other guys with Pistas and the guy sitting next to me has a converted Peugeot.

I'll probably be spotted at Lincoln's finest dives with my soma. I didn't plan on bringing my bike, but I saw Northwest doesn't require bike boxes for bikes. I work full-time, so the 80 bucks each way isn't a problem.

Used to live there, always visit. Here are a few places worth visiting/frequenting:

Yia-Yia's - amazing pizza and extensive beer selection, super rad staff (don't forget to tip the kitchen!)
Oso Burrito - no place has better ingredients, i think a few of the staff ride fixed geared bicycles
O'Rourke's - great place to get ****ty and hear music
Barrymore's - bit more expensive, but worth the visit if you can find it
Spindle - records, records, records... what else do you need?
Iron Brush Tattoo - respectible work by a talented staff

plus there are skateparks, schools, and churches to cruise. i would frequent places like these when all i had was a skateboard. have a safe trip!

I live in Lincoln. I was on the bike paths this past weekend and it was out of control. Probably half of the city was out riding/walking.

Lots of off street biking. You can get just about anywhere - fairly quickly.

I don't see too many fixed gears, I see a few singlespeeds here and there.

maps here... www.gptn.org

I live in Omaha and have a couple of friends into ss/fixed as well. Anyone interested in doing group rides once a month in Lincoln or Omaha this spring/summer?

I'm from Lincoln, but I'm off at grad school so I don't get back much. It's a great town. The downtown area is fun to ride, lots of places to go and great places to eat. Mad Dog Cycles is right downtown- its a great little bike shop. Stop in and I'm sure they will hook you up with some rides.

The weather changes a bit. The other day it was in the 70s and the next day it snowed. So be prepared.

I live in Lincoln but have never heard of Mad Dog Cycles. There is one downtown bike shop I know of and that's Monkey Wrench Cycles -- nice little two-man shop that focuses on custom builds.

I'm a New Englander. If you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes.

Really though, we are all going to die eventually. Staying in Lincoln just helped you finally come to that realization - so that was a good thing...

DAMN! I have NO idea where I got that from! Too many late nights. MONKEY WRENCH CYCLES is the shop downtown. Great shop. Bike Peddlers is a good shop too. Mad Dog Cycles is a place out in Utah...

I have never been there, but whenever I hear the name I think of a song by City and Colour.
"I've never been to Alaska, but I can tell you this, I've been to Lincoln Nebraska and man you know it ain't worth ****"

But every place has it's spots you just need to find them.

Good... I was looking on the visible satellites and it looked like all the snow was gone. I didn't know how "freak winter storms" might be down there.

I'm getting into lincoln tomorrow OH WHATS UP! I'm there until sunday. I shall be found at whatever dives are there.
If you see my rolling around, give me a shout.
I'll probably have shorts on with adidas sambas, black bailey works riding a black soma with a darkest hour sticker on the top tube.

Locations noted... I'll be there for two days in June. Burritos, skateparks and records... PERFECT.

In my first 24 hours here, I've been to 3 of those places. THe beer selection at Yia Yia is HUGE. My friend is pretty good friends with Steve that works there, so I ate for free. Went to O'Rourke's last night. ****ty music, but it was pretty awesome. Went to Spindle today.

By the way my bike has white deep vs and celeste wrapped nitto bullhorns, pretty distinct

I'll keep an eye out. I don't know where 14th street is. Grid citied get me disoriented. If I was riding with a girl, then you probably saw me. I was over by Spindle and was drinking at duffy's around the 2-4pm hours. I'm staying at an apartment 2 block from the blue cross blue shield building.
