Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

SF Shops?

Hey I am going to be in San Fransisco next week and I was wondering which shops should be on my list?

I appreciate any help.

There are two shops near 18th and Valencia ... Freewheel, and Valencia Cyclery ... they are good.
There is also Heavy Metal Bike Shop on 29th and San Jose Ave (i think) ... there are other but their hours are really odd...

I find they overcharge when compared to othershops in the city. It's also rare to hear of bike service done right at either Freewheel location

That they do. I actually bought a rear wheel from them, when i was new to fixed gear. Ended up spending way more then i should have. My fault for not looking into it. Now it sits at home with the threads for the lock ring bad. But i do agree their prices are a little higher then the others.

BTW do you know any places in the city to get used frames or parts. I have seem some at box dog, but not familiar for any others. My frame is just at the end of the tunnel with the light shinning bright, and need to find a cheap frame to replace it with, until i am able to acquire a Kilo.

I've had all positive experiences with Refried Cycles at 17th and Sanchez. They helped me get together all the parts for my road bike at pretty friendly prices and you never have to deal with the bull**** attitudes that I've encountered at bike shops, mostly here in Santa Cruz, though.

I suggest Road Rage in the SoMa district, if only because it's a block away from Chrome HQ and the Brainwash cafe!
