'nuff sed.
Basically... plastic clips, nylon straps... bad idea. Metal + leather is a lot better in my experience.

So the clips are both plastic and some weird design that don't have metal replacements? Sounds awesome.

MKS GR-9 is definately a more solidly made design and will make you much happier.

Those Alien pedals look like cheap pieces of ****. Why am I not surprised?
You know, there already are lots of pedals designed to work with regular sneakers.

I've held but not ridden with the Alien pedals and they seem to be a bit better than most people are giving them credit for. The clips are very stiff and seem really durable, and the pedal body seems pretty well thought out. If they offered replacement clips I'd say they'd be a pretty good choice.
But, personally, I run GR-9s with MKS clips and cheap leather straps. Stick a little bit of grip tape on the bottom of the pedal (a tip from elsewhere on this forum) and you're set.

My roommate has a pair. He likes them alot. I wouldnt trust them cause I have broken plastic clips before, but he is a small guy.

I've broken steel clips before, but never plastic ones and I actually use plastic double gate mountain clips more often than steel road clips. By your logic I can't trust the steel ones, but the plastic are fine. By my own logic everything breaks, take care of it, and watch it for signs of wear.

I've got a pair of those DA pedals on my fixed gear right now with Avocet laminated straps. WOW are they smooth. :-O They're amazing pedals, but don't have the greatest platform for sneakers. I'm sure GR-9s are more practical, but I love these DAs.

A friend of mine has the aliens and he said his feet hurt after trying to do backwards circles for an hour. The underside is just spindle, no nothing, so they aren't too good for "trix."

You guys really haven't seen those DA pedals before? I've pulled a pair of those, along with the 600's that look exactly like them, off of a couple of conversions I've put together. They absolutely suck for riding without the cleats that are designed for them.
This design really isn't that uncommon if you're shopping around for higher quality 80's road bikes.

And just to answer on topic, something about those Aliens looks cheap as hell to me. I'd do what everyone else did and buy GR-9's.*
*Actually, I'd go clipless. But that's for another conversation.
