freewheel rubbing against my spokes on my SS...
What kind of spacer can I get? Can I buy a bb 1 mm spacer? Or are there freewheel specific spacers out there?

Glad to see I'm not the only one confused by this question.
A picture would definitely help, but I will throw out there that you might need to redish your wheel. Just a possible suggestion.

sorry..no pic. I have a shimano ss freewheel and a formula/mavic flip flop wheelset. On the freewheel side, i noticed that when i thread the freewheel all the way on and spin the cranks backwards, its not as smooth and i suspect that the side of the freewheel is rubbing.. Perhaps rubbing closer to the threads where i can't really see. When I spin the cranks backwards with my road bike, it seems to spin longer and without any sort of resistance.

I'll try to be helpful.....your freewheel is probably a POS... you would be able to see if it was rubbing against the spokes
EDIT: just saw that it is a shimano freewheel - they suck but will get a little better with age after they break in
if you want to remove most of the resistance you are feeling plan on dropping some coin on the white industries freewheels

Think of your freewheel as a ratchet. When pedaling, it is engaged. When coasting or pedaling backwards, the pawls have to slide (in the opposite direction) over the teeth you engage when pedaling. Wear will improve this as the spring that engages the pawl wears in and as the grease/oil breaks down a bit.
