    First FG build...

This is going to be my main road bike. I was looking at an IRO Mark V, which has mounts for front and rear brakes, but now I'm thinking a converted road bike would be better. Like an old steel touring frame. Any ideas?

a good quality steel road frame will make a great bike for road riding, they typically have a more comfortable geometry for long-distance riding, eyelets for racks and fenders and can be had for cheaper than a track frame. That said, I'm sure a mark v will treat you just fine, and you'll be able to get it right away. If you want to find a good frame for a conversion, you have to be patient and constantly hitting garage sales, thrift stores and the like.

I can get an old frame for conversion pretty easy, I'm sure Sixty Fiver can find me something fairly easily.

I like the IRO, but the geometry is pretty tight compared to what I'm used to, which makes me look to old touring frames.
