Help me ID this bike!

So I was at this little dinky bike shop at the beach yesterday and ran across this beautiful Chrome track bike for a crazy deal! The guy had no idea what was on the bike and the frame itself was very nice as well, I picked it up but I can't seem to figure out exactly what the frame is. I think it is a Raleigh because of the head badge pattern and I found the seat bold stamped with Raleigh, but I would love to know for sure and what model or year if I could. Can you help me? It has a mondia fork, Campy Brev drop outs, Campy Record rear hub, came with a Cinelli stem and track bars, and the other parts are all definitely upgraded more recently so I won't go through the list. The dealer thought it was a Bianchi Pista but I doubt that, because it is lugged and no Bianchi decals or stamps on the seat stays. Help me, here is a link to pictures, it is the second bike obviously.

I did, and it's in track too. I know the silliness that ensues here as I am a fairly regular poster and we both know that many people here know their stuff! but thanks for the suggestion.

i think c&v will be your best bet. there's not much to go on there and they tend to have old catalogs and such for finding things by serial number.

Looks like a mid 80's Raleigh Pursuit Frame. Conversion from a 12 speed road bike
(Sports/Touring geometry. I have one in it's original configuration. It's slightly above entry level .

Look at the second bike down, it has track ends. That's the one he's talking about.

well maybe but it is only on the fork and that is easily replaced. Plus I can't find evidence of a chrome mondia track frame.

Yea...Mondia. Swiss made. I have a road frame that has the same seat stay "wrap" at the seat tube junction. Most of them have a serial number stamped into the top of the stay. I was able to place mine as a "Mondia Super" from @ 1977. That is as far as I have been able to get.

Mine has a Swiss threaded/sized BB shell. Parts are not common.

Fine bike!

Well I think I got it. I believe it to be a 1971/2 Raleigh Professional Track. I got at this through these two sources. First I found a list of Raleigh serial numbers under 1967-73 and the Serial Number I have of F2229 matches 72. Then I went to the catalog list and found not the 71 but the 72 catalog and on page 2 it has a picture of the 72 bike that is obviously chromed with the same matching rainbow stickers, and the parts list matches what I have as well, and it looks to have the same Mondia fork in the picture as well. It would seem the bike was stripped of the paint and re-decaled but everything I can tell points to a 71/2 Raleigh Pro Track Does this seem like a reasonable conclusion to you guys? If so Sheldon said a frame would go for around $1000 and thats without the components. so I tripled my investment

It's a Mondia, same decals even as this chromed one. Mondia might not have constructed it though, just like the "Huffy" (serotta) Track bike, that might be why you cannot find a Mondia track bike, but i doubt it.

EDIT: Now that i look at the holes from where the head badge was, it looks like the outline a Raleigh might have.

well I had found that example as well but since I can find the exact same frame with matching serial number in the Raleigh and I found a Raleigh bolt on it as I posted above I think thats it.
