Gears are for the weak

I was riding tonight and this guys rolls up on me from behind on a cervelo road bike. Meanwhile I was on my beater with fenders, bag, lock, heavy *** bike rolling 65 gear inches. He starts to pull ahead of me so I'm like OK i'll stick with him. I'm riding for 8 mins with this guy, when he finally gets tired ( we were spinning almost the same gear ) and starts slacking off. I guess he bonked. So I nod at him and pass. He stares blankly at me, no sign of emotion.

30 seconds later same guy blasts by on the big chain ring. I put on the pressure and match his pace as i'm spinning 125rpm at 23mph, the guy must have been like holy ****? this kid on a fixie is killin it without gears. finally i whoop him on the big hill out here and once he reaches the top switches it to his biggest gear so he could smoke me down the descent.

yeah some guys need to work on their cadence and consistency.

23mph?

Maybe he was coming back from a ride and was taking it relatively easy?

You near Indiana? You can join me on a 310 mile day, if you can keep up with a 48 year old man riding a road bike I'm shooting for a sub 18 hour triple century

Lol. Is this serious? How many times is this guy going to say the same thing?

If you think you are such a badass you should go out to the next race in your area and see what happens when roadies get serious. Its not a race unless you both start at the same place and race to a predetermined location.

I enjoy Fixed as well. I just don't limit myself to one type of cycling. Life is too short and there are too many ways to have fun on a bike. If he's trolling, it's a relatively harmless attempt, by the way.

You can completely destroy a perfectly good evening reading those R600 threads. I think I'm about due up for a re-read soon. Each R600DA post is like a once-in-a-lifetime blooming of a rare and beautiful flower of wisdom.

This is a **** thread so I'll stir some up. If we're excluding mechanical artificies why not exclude gears or wheels to begin with. Beat him in a foot-vs-bike race and I'll be impressed.
