My First Fixie - Schwinn Suburban Steel - "SSS"
This is a 1979 Schwinn Suburban frame that I obtained for free. I had a set of 76 Schwinn Varsity bars that I cut into bullhorns and a 65 neck to attch them to the fork. The rat trap pedals are off the same 76 Varsity. The rims are off an 80's Ross Carerra that my son had wrecked and the Ashtabula style crank sprocket is an old Murray/Sears unit I obtained for $10 from the LBS that supplied the free frame. Chain is a silver 1/8" for $11 off Ebay. The seat is a vintage Brooks B72 that I obtained a few months ago for $40 from the same LBS. Brake lever off some MTB that I obtained from the parts bin of the same LBS for maybe $5. Bontrager white bar tape for $17 completed the project. I stripped the frame as it was sky blue painted over the original red paint. Took her down to steel and clear coated the whole frame. Set up is 46/18 and works out to 69 gear inches on the 27" tires/rims. My first fixie and definately a trip to ride! First pic is intitial assembly - followed by completed bike today.

Thanks for the feedback - the picture makes the blue paint look much better than it actually did - it was a rather poor rattle can job. I usually go the original route either going with the original patina of the bike or restoring to original color, decals, etc. I always wanted a chrome or steel bike, hence this seemed the perfect opportunity to put one in the stable at a budget price...
