Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

While a bold statement, the stark nature of the Fuji clashes with the small, repetitive pattern on the red field of the couch - try a solid in a cool colour or perhaps a bold playful floral.

Put the brake in the front and loose the suspension seat post. Then we can talk.

Oh yeah, post a drive side shot too.

Stamped chain ring/crank?

Also that rear brake seems useless, since it is fixed right?

Guys I think it's SS so a back brake is normal, but get a front one as well Also a drive side shot is customary, especially because that chainring is looking....special.

Unlike your title, it won't be fun when you can't stop quickly. Get a front brake, regular seat post, real fender or take that wing off.. and clean your room. Thats all i got until i see a drive side photo.

I N-E-V-E-R let my bike on the couch, because once it gets in the habit, its really hard to break it. you have to start young, or they become alpha-bikes that control you and end up peeing in your bed.

As stated above, add a front brake.

If you ever ride in the drops, you're going to be unhappy with that MTB style lever. Having to react quickly without a brake lever near your hands is bad news. I would go with road-style brake levers on the drops or get MTB bars with MTB brake levers.

And always remember the correct way to spell lose.

BTW, what happened to the original brakes and levers?

Thanks Teach. I must have been in a hurry.

Looks awesome and a ton of fun. I personally am a fan of the only-one-brake look. I have a rear on my street bike and a front on my fixie...I don't like having two at all. Rear-only makes more sense in the winter or when it's raining, buuut if it's going to be dry for a while you should go front-brake-only on a freewheel and watch everyone get SUPER self-riteous. You'll also be able to stop on a dime. I did it when I rode freewheel and it makes you a way better brake-er.

Ok, thanks for the advice and ball busting. I was on a short budget and had a short availability of suplies (hence the stamped chainring, shock seatpost, and MTB brake lever) but I like the way it rides even with all of the needed improvements. I am keeping it from being alpha-bike by making it sleep outside and I will track down the wolves to get back some of the original parts to put on the brakes in a more comfortable and safe position. My room is actually the bedroom of the one bedroom apartment I am living in above the restaurant I am working at for the summer. The mess is my Greek roommates unmade bed in the living room and I will have a talk with him about that. Otherwise, thanks again y'all, it was a good first attempt on my part but I am spending my next paycheck on a brand new fixed gear bike which has my tail wagging a hundred miles an hour. Anybody know of the Sun/Origin-8 "Uno"? (My price through the shop I work at is $299.99... fits right in my budget and the components aren't bad at all.) Cheers!
