My New project
Just got the okay from a bike shop that my Nishiki Professional will take 700c wheels so i bought a pair from the shop. They're a pair of Alex R-450 S wheels. They come with a 14T cog already on them and were only $71+15 shipping. I've read some reviews saying they're durable as heck for the price and this is just going to be a budget (so far only had to buy wheels) bulid. Here are some pics of the frame, the things goint to be changed on that are probably some bull horns and new tape but thats about it. Do you guys think i should keep the saddle or get a new one? Thanks
*Should i keep that frame pump on or ditch it?

Yeah my grandpa gave it to me a year or so agao, and i just thougth "damn wheels are shot, can't use it" now im much more knowledgeable about bikes and am making it into a dream bike. It really is a pretty bike and really would love to hear some opinions on what people would like to see/think i should do to it. So far i've got the wheels, im thinking:
of course new chaing, maybe new seat, bull horn bars, i have some new tektro levers, def need tires/tubes, want to just really clean it up and make it quality.
The bike was ridden less than a couple hundred miles i think. My grandpa road it for one trip i think and just stored it.
Should that frame pump stay or go?

Thought about it, but it honestly is the perfect SS/fixie candidate. Besides, out of all my 5 bikes, only one has gears and thats' my mountain bike
If someone wants to pay shipping they can have the old wheels and deraileurs. Suntour V Comps

I say keep the pump.
But it's easy to experiment with it on/off since the mounts are removable. Try it on to see if it rattles and whether you end up using it (touching up tire pressure; filling up after flat repairs). Try it off to see if you prefer the cleaner look and amazingly negligible weight advantage.
No to bullhorns on there. Drops with either cross levers or brakehoods, I say. Also, keep the saddle (if it's comfortable) and those brakes.
But what's happening to this? How are you building it up?

Leave the pump!!!! Get a new seatpost, I say older vintage campy, and a brooks would look fly on that! Keep that thing appropriate don't go all modern with it! I don't know if you have tires yet but on my vintage Raleigh I am running bontrager select K in tan/black as soon as my current ones die, because Gumwalls = sex on older rides! plus they are cheap, roll well and are pretty durable!

*gasp*
please, leave gears on that bike...it hurts me to think of it converted, despite the fact that it IS a good candidate.

If it were a perfect cantidate for ss conversion it wouldn't have an integrated deraileur hanger.
If OP already as like five ss/fg bikes and one MTB, maybe it's time for OP to try a geared road bike on for size.
EDIT: this is about to become a hatchet job on a nice old bike. I am sad.

The only historical note I have to offer on this bike is that it was meant to be a geared road bike.

don't sell it! keep it or i will come beat your ass.
and go vintage fixed on it. brooks saddle, frame pump, NORMAL chain, gum-wall tires, drop bars with classy levers and hoods. that's not a track bike, and it's much too glorious to turn it into some ******-bike with deep v's and risers. keep it classy, and enjoy own and GORGEOUS bike.
don't make me come beat your ass boy!

Why don't you give gears a try?
If you are however determined on ruining a piece of cycling heritage, please minimize you damages. A classy frame like that shouldn't have to end it's life in a few years from now when the craze dies and noone knows what to do with a road bike hacked of all it's braze-ons. Keep those derailleur hangers, cable-guides ect. you'll probably want them some day. And if not, someone else will.
Those cranks are killer. Had them on my first messenger bike.
I would keep that pump, but I would also carry a tube so you know... you can put it to use.

that's a beautiful frame and I love the cranks.
I don't see the problem with making it a SS, but if I were you I'd keep the old wheels and derailers so you can put it back some day if you change your mind. Those old Suntour parts are great. The hubs will go forever.
