Makino Frame Sizing?
I'm around 5'11" w/ a 30" Inseam and would like to know if a 53cm TT/53cm ST Makino would fit me. Also, has anyone ever experienced cycling palsy? What did you do to correct the pain it causes?

If your inseam is that short for 5'11" the 53cm is probably too small for you, especially the top tube. Get a size up (55). I'm 5'11" with a 32" inseam and I ride 56-58 comfortably.

Unfortunately, there are no Makinos at the local LBS's here in Madison,Wi. That includes the Yellow Jersey too. My 56cm Iro Mark V fits fine, as does my Kilo TT which is 53cm. I asked becaused it seems like numbers don't mean squat sometimes....

if u know the c-t (center of bb to tt) and the c-c (center of seatube to headtube, tt length)... there isn't THAT much fluctuation... if numbers didn't mean anything then why would manufacturers state them? they need some sort of "measure" to sell bikes by. when i went and bought my nagasawa, it's not like i went down to performance and picked a nagasawa off the shelf to try* out..... if u ride a 56cm IRO which on IRO's website has a 55.5cm tt then i believe that a 53 makino will be too small. usualy a 53 will be either square or have a 54cm tt. SURE u can ride* it.... but imho it won't fit well. |
If it's any help, I ride a 54cm square Makino with 165mm cranks 100mm stem and a setback seatpost with about 14cm out and I am 5' 9" with a 32" inseam.
So yes, that 53cm should be alright for you, maybe get a longer stem- |

yeah, as this guy said. if you're used to riding a 56 iro that top tube is 55.5 and i think the top tube on a 53 kilo is 55 also. A 53 square makino will be on the smaller side. You'll end up with a gang of seat tube and stem showing to make it fit.
