Crazy MF's riding fixed in a city of hills hills hills.. But saw this and thought it was pretty sweet. Snapped a photo on my way around the city. I love SF.. much better than plastic San Deigo where I call home now;

Seems to confirm the "40 lb bike rule"

If you own a 20 lb bike, you need a 20 lb lock to keep it from getting stolen, but if you have a 40 lb bike, nobody will steal it, so don't carry a lock. Therefore, all bikes weigh 40 lbs.

Dave, the lock and chain wiegh 9 lbs. Found them in nashbar for 68 dollars.

look at the gear on that bike...SF demands it. A tattoo artist, Grime, rides a fixie/SS I believe. The guy that did my 1/4 sleeve (Deluxe Tattoo on Irving park, ask for Mario! shameless plug for a friend) is buds with Grime. When I was in SF, I caught a glimpse of a guy chugging up Chinatown's Main strip...and I was getting tired watching him.

Die-hard roadies know about locks? You bought one for your weekend rides?
:D

I thought the New York Chain was just for smashing windshields!

i live here in sf and ride a 48/17. i see a lot of lower geared fixies here, but i seem to get along just fine and so do others i ride with. a lot of the steeper hills around here are fairly easy to climb if you know the right way and don't mind taking a less direct route. there's a route known as the wiggle that zigzags from market street/lower haight to upper haight/gg park with minimal uphill grades. honestly, riding on perfectly flat land almost sounds a bit boring to me...

I'm in NE Florida and I wish there were hills or inclines here. It's basically flat everywhere except the overpasses.
