Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Let's see ...

I'm 46.
I own a Honda Accord. A green one. I also own a Volvo. A white one.
I own a house in the suburbs.
I teach first grade.
My iPod is full of the same alt-rock I listened to when I was in my twenties.

But ....

My iPod is full of the same alt-rock I listened to when I was in my twenties.
I own three fixed gear conversions. Two of them have moustache bars and Brooks saddles.
I don't allow carbon fiber on my property. The same for wheels that don't have at least 32 spokes.
I did own some riser bars once. I chopped them up to make a mounting bar for the many lights I use on my bikes in the winter.
I've also been known to hang out a bike co-ops.
I did race in an alleycat once. It was one of the most fun things I ever did on a bike. I almost DFL'd.

I never drink PBR, but in the 80's my friends and I all drank Meisterbrau and Milwaukee's Finest because it was cheap and we like the irony of it.

I actually like the taste of PBR. It's sort of like boozy water.

I wear jeans, tees and Vans... always have. I guess I look like a hipster. In the past I have also looked like a punk, skater, grunger, stoner and hippy. Scenes change, the clothes stay the same.

Amen to that.
My style hasn't changed much and I've had all sorts of titles applied to me.

Check my last post on page 3. GCF = Good Clean Fun. There's a girl in the video wearing a POSI hoodie.

yeah, of course i am. i thought i wasn't because i didn't have anybody else to show me the styles. i just had sheldon brown's site to make me build my fixed myself. then i came up with rolling the pant legs on my own. bike touring veterans got me into brooks saddles. i like road conversions and box rims, if that helps. oh, and, ultimately, i wear the shimano cycling sandals, so i suppose they absolve anything hipster i'd ever do. but, again, i don't see the sin in being hipster.

9 to 5, kid, wife, mortgage, etc.= Not hip for sure, but give it my best foot forward. Tats, fixies, knickers. I guess I'm more of a wannabe.
