First Project, I Know Nothing. Can I get Some Help Please
 

Hey I recently just started my first fixie conversion. I wanna say the bike is a 85 Huffy strider. I'm planning on getting a new wheelset, BB, and cranks. Is there anything i should know when ordering this stuff.

you should know huffy's are horrible bikes.

I do know that but its all i got bro, and i got no money.

I'd save up and get a better bike.
They sell Huffys at Target.

If you got no money how are you going to pay for a crank and wheelset? No, don't tell me, maybe I don't want to know!:rolleyes:

If you started with a better old bike, you might not have to buy BB or crank. And maybe not even wheels.

With the Huffy, you mentioned three parts that are likely to add up to about $200 at least. Find a $50 decent old junker and keep your budget to a $20 cog.

By the way, I presume that the Huffy has a one-piece crank. If that is so, then replacing the BB and crank is not going to at all easy or cheap.

ummm, one piece bb are cheap and super easy to put together. ****, you don't even need bike specific tools for it. every other bb and crank you need specific tools to even get the crank off.

please don't just go spouting off things like you know what you are talking about

shimano cartridge bb $20-$30 on average (you can get some cheaper but that is just an average)
tools needed - 8 mil allen wrench or a 14 mil socket wrench, crank remover, the correct size bb tool for sealed cartridge (i'm not going to get in to loose ball but there are plenty more tools for that)

one piece bb $8-$12 - crecent wrench and a pin spanner (flat head screwdriver works if that's all you have)

I think he's refering to ashtabula cranks.

For $0-$50 extra you could get a much, much, much better frame.
