Going from free to fixed
Is like going from checkers to chess. You must think more, but consider less. Moves must be caculated in three and four steps, vice one or two.

Actually I had an old Jeep that I drove around for a week with a bad slave cylinder (the clutch would not disengage) which is probably the closest you can get to a fixed gear car, I could however shift, you just have to make sure the engine's RPMs are the same as the gear you are shifting into's RPMs. I killed the engine at stoplights and started it in first upon a green light, thankfully the starters in Jeeps are ment to power the vehicle from time to time. You also get to know your gear ratios that way.
