Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? How to build?

I admit I'm no technical genius, but how easy is it build up a SS? Assuming you had a frame and fork. I am looking to do this as inexpensively as possible, and I'm sure info for beginners must be around, but I can't find it in here.

Or is it just as economical to buy one from the outset?

It is as economical as you want it to be.If you start with a decent old 10speed it'll cost you about $30 for a freewheel and chain.Or you can spend several hundret.
