Can I get a fast response?
Sorry about this everyone but I trashed my bike last night so im bailing ship on it. These are the two im considering but im afraid they are going to sell fast. Which is better? Im leaning towards the raleigh because the brakes better and I have some parts for it. But the peugeot might be a better frame? I dont know.

Linked to the same bike twice. I'd take the raleigh over the pooj without even looking at it.

That Raleigh is nice and old
Looks like it's in great shape too Where is the peugeot information? |
The Raleigh has a nice frame with a semi-horizontal drop out. It's perfect for a conversion. And, it's a classic Raleigh!

i wouldn't pay $200 for that raleigh, especially just to make it a conversion. if you did pay $200 a good bit of that would be that the shifters and deraileurs are original and in great shape, which you would then proceed to ditch. same with the rear wheel, and possibly the brakes (depending on your opinion of brakes). that crankset can't be separated to an individual ring, are you going to just run it like that or are you going to get a new crankset? if you are going to replace the crankset good luck finding a single speed crankset that goes with a cotter pin BB (that is worth a damn...) so then you'd have to get a new BB. all of a sudden you've paid $200 for less than half a bike.
sorry to be a buzz-kill, i've just seen and done my share of conversion. i would let that raleigh go to someone who is going to keep it in the condition it's in. if that's what you plan on doing then great (even though i think $200 is a little steep) but yer in the wrong ferrum' EDIT: that peugeot i would say is worth $200. the cranks still might not separate, but at least it's a square taper BB. also has nicer brakes and other components. beware with french stuff though, they have non-proprietary headsets and bottom brackets (i.e. they don't work with anything else) so if you need to replace any parts on those, it's a real pain in the ass. |

I would take the Pug. It will be an easier conversion for you and probably a nicer ride around town.Truthfully though, I wouldn't pay $200 for either one. Your market might be high, but unless you need a bike right now, I would wait or even find something much better on ebay for an extra 50 or 100 bucks. |
yeah, I think we might be more expensive than NYC. All these bike alway sell for 150 to about 200. Schwinn varsity will sell for $150 easy.

Ugh! the Raleigh has been repainted with Hammerite, that stuff is durable as hell, and looks like ass. Forget ever getting a decent looking paintjob on that without sandblasting it for a few dozen hours.
The Peugeot is definitely not a PX-10. It's got suicide levers and stem shifters which makes it a much lower end model, but it's in much nicer shape than the Raleigh, and the components are better. The Raleigh has steel cottered cranks, and probably uses the proprietary Raleigh Sized bottom bracket. The Peugeot may have a french BB, but it's also got square tapered cranks on it already and a useable crankset. Go with the Frog. |
Nice peug
Seems like the better choice now that I see both bikes |
I think $200 is steep for either bike. The Peugeot appears to be the same one that I have (found at the dump), but in a diff. color. Heavy as heck, but solid (done a couple centuries on it).

I think the peugeot is a nicer looking bike, FWIW :)
|
One's a 56 and the other a 54, I'd get the right size before I start sweating components.
If you're going to convert it either way, get the one that will fit. |
Yeah I got the Peugeot. Its not perfect but its pretty sweet. Not to mention I was short on money until I could pay later this night and he let me take it. I was riding with a continental that was to big for me and now I cant tell if this is to small or just right. Its a 56 and im 5'10" so I think im good. But I like it. Im not sure if it needs a new front wheel or just an axle but there is something wrong there. Thanks for the help. It will be ss/fixed soon.
