Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Time for your 2003 Batty Nominations

Hey,

Itís time to submit your nominations for the 2003 Battery (AKA the Battys, the DCs, and the Bad Day in Philly) awards.

Has a post, question, news story, short story, or E-Bay item really annoyed you this year? Nominate them for a Batty.

Winners in each category will receive a wonderfully retro Radio Shack D battery fitted with after market yard dart fins straight from the black market.

These nifty CPSC-banned power sources are just the thing you need to clock someone in the head when the drive train doesnít leave any time for coasting.

Vote early and often.

Willy,

How edgy. That photo makes me feel like I've violated my company's internet policy (and not by posting at here, if you know what I mean).

The words "Banana Hammock" come to mind - an excellent post and in the spirit of the thread.

Likewise, props go to 165 for nominating himself.

My nominations:
Shecky - Most Disturbing Avatar. What's up with the guy holding the gun to the dog's head?

Sweet "Slick" Willy Karsten - Don't Ask, Don't Tell award for fearless use of a glittery gold bike seat in a city full of sailors

Shiek - His dogged muckraking and journalistic integrity strikes fear into the hearts of federal bureaucrats and beltway bandits alike. Wait, he posts here way too much to actually do any work.

Last but not least, Mitzi of bicycle smile fame - Her post didn't annoy me one bit, but it sounds like she goes through a lot of batteries.

I would nominate myself for something, but I know everyone loves me.

Oh yeah Ė Merry Christmas and other assorted world religious holidays to all.

For the "Are LaToya and Michael the Same Person" award, I nominate Mayonnaise and Mitzi of "Bicycle Smile" fame. For those of you unfamiliar with Sweet Mitzi's prose, here are some examples:

http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=31392

http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...7&page=6&pp=15

"...Okay folks, in workshop, today, we are going to write from the perspective of the opposite sex..."

Are Mitz and Mayo, the same person???? Inquiring minds want to know...Either way, give 'em a Batty!

I fear no sailor, no matter how long they've been at sea.

Now, a submariner.. that's a different story.

Due to my total inability to buy yard darts on Ebay - it looks like Slick Willy's seat o' porn will go unrewarded.

He beat out even the latest of entries - me collarbone.

This is me waiting for the ride to the hospital day after Christmas. Photo by Schiek.

Followup appointment next week I'll take the digicam and shoot some of the X-rays.

Wow...you are mortal. I'll be damned. I betcha anything that Schiek hucked a feww AAAs at you mid-ride and caused you to crash. I'd keep an eye on him...

How did it really happen?

While quickly growing folk lore has it that my front wheel was attacked by a homeless guy with a frame pump, it was 100% operator error. Went over the top on a down hill doing +/- 20mph. Now I think I know what a pro crash feels like.

Luckily I more or less rolled and ended up on my back. Face planting like Mayo would have been no good.

Props to Schiek for calling his wife for the car, driving me to the ER and then waiting around until his next birthday for me to get out.

Willy -

A coaster? I don't think I can dignify that one. Wait, I just did. Anyhow, that's fine talk from a man who removes cranks arms with a sledgehammer (and dents the car while doing it).

One of my great regrets is that when moved out of the rental house I was living in five years ago, I didn't take the yard darts I had found in the backyard shed.

What I want to know is what is up with you and the porn camera? That picture makes me want to rock back and forth (and not in a good way). Do you have Dorf411 chained up in your garage or something.

It is unfortunate, but if you really want you prize - it would have to be made out of these. How not hetero would that be?

On the other hand, if you can go to Mexico and procure some yard darts I'll be happy to supply the D-cells.

Yeah, I did that didn't I. I bought a crank remover finally. 8.39 on sale. Less damage to the cranks.

Hey, bring on your darts.. I've got ammo... Coaster.

Hey, we could go into buisness, eh?

Goat rider and Slick willy's battery powered darts.

Wait, that sounds like one of those movies with funny music.
