Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

If money is no object....what's the best steel frame?

Not talking something ultra rare that you pay a premium for because of its one-of-a-kindness.

What's the highest quality steel frame out there that's available on a wide enough scale that it's price isn't inflated because of scarcity?

Do you mean production rather than custom? Does it need to be new or is used ok? Does it need to be a track bike?

Good questions, and I probably should have specified those things.

Let's say production rather than custom. Probably helps to eliminate inflation for one-of-a-kindness.

Being a true track frame probably isn't desirable to me. But if that's what's the best, that's what's the best.

second on Seven. You can pick up an "off the rack" Seven. They make a catalogue of basic sizes and offer them up without needing to go through their fit process and all the tailings associated with it.

Waterford is also damn good.

Track frames?

oh! I know: Milwaukee Bicycle's Cream city track frame.

That's because he means 953, as in reynolds 953 tubing. I have to agree that it is probably the best steel tubing out there right now.

Waterford, everything is just a pretender. http://waterfordbikes.com/now/models.php?Model=2173

Whatever it is, its not something made in the USA..that's for sure.
The best is easily in Japan or Italy.
Its all subjective anyway.

It seems so. Apparently there isn't any kind of consensus on the top two or three frames as the suggestions have been all over the place.

As a side note, this question was for informative purposes only. I'm not a trust funder, nor do I manage a hedge fund, so I won't be throwing down for anything good enough to get suggested in this thread.

My mistake. 953. I could not find it on their website, but have it in a catalog they sent me.

Come to think of it, the lugged Waterford frames are quite nice.
