Another frame sizing question

So I've looked around and read various bike sizing charts and sites and being 6'-3" the frame I "should" be buying is in the 60cm range. I just sold my first fixie that was a 62cm simply because it felt too tall. I come from a BMX background and just recently switched over to riding a 24" cruiser. I dunno, I just feel better on a more compact frame, something around a 54-55cm which seems to appropriately fit somebody 6" shorter than me.

So after all that rambling, the question is, am I missing something on buying the suggested frame size or am I going to run into longterm problems by buying a bike that is a few cm smaller than recommended?

I usually use the seat-of-the-pants test on most everything I purchase but I have to admit that I don't know much of anything about road or track bikes but I"m hungry to learn before buying the next one.

THanks all, NAES

Tubetop length is the most important fit measurement. If you are spending a lot of money on a bike get fit professionally. It will be worth the money in the long run.

I am 6"4" & feel the same way. I was really aprehensive about buying my Windsor Hour because I dislike tall looking frames which is why I was aprehensive about buying the Kilo TT, as it is a tall looking frame.

I went for the Windsor "the Hour" 61cm frame which is measured center to top, so center to center the frame is actually aroung 58cm. I love the look & the fit. Look into it.

Here's my bike:

the height of the frame is kind of irrelevant. After all, that is what you've got seatpost and spacers on your stem for. You should be more concerned about how far you have to reach to the handlebars. Maybe try a few bikes at the LBS and find a top tube length you are comfortable with. Use that as a starting point for your frame decisions.
