Here's a crappy screenshot of me climbing the Corkscrew Wall near Foresthill yesterday. This is definitely geared bike territory. It's a 4.1 mile climb, 9.2% average grade (18% max), and 2,033' of climbing. After that climb, you get to climb back out of the canyon on Mosquito Ridge Road for 10 miles. That climb probably could be done on a SS, but I don't think I'd want to do it for 10 miles. Spinning on long climbs is still more efficient.
The smudge on the left side of the camera is from a bug that hit my riding partner's camera lens during the Mosquito Ridge Road descent.
Here's video of the Corkscrew Wall climb (caution heavy breathing!). It alternates between my riding partner's footage and mine. I showed us climbing similar areas, so you get to see how much I suck compared to him (he finished the climb about 20 minutes before me).
jdg is my personal ralph photographer:
livin on the EDGE with that helmet
ride bikes, eat food. the circle of life.
Took a picture of my younger brother today.
Me and a buddy did what I call the Portland loop today about 40miles on our leaders, had a good time.
You can actually hold those thingies on the front of the bike.
Yeah but I was following my buddies pace who isn't so quick, so I was just riding real causal.
Suffering with bruised ribs and allergies. Trying to catch back onto the main group after being dropped on lap 5 of 8. Pro tip: don't race when injured, especially in a stacked field. Oh well, racing on Laguna Seca was awesome.
I'd ride laguna seca with a busted anything. Was it as awesome as GT2 promised?
he didn't, the beard did
Man, I want to take my bike to NorCal, those pictures look fantastic. Look how much bike lane there is!
Here's a screenshot from my riding partner's camera from my 4/20 Mix Canyon climb. This is the easier part of the climb near the bottom. By the time I reached the hard parts he was long gone, as usual. More pics, video, Strava, and Garmin Connect data is here.
Oh man that area reminds me so much of when I was living in the Okanagan Valley. I miss those grassy hills!
No stiffness in the neck at all, usually cruise on the imaginary hoods. Its maybe a three inch saddle to bar drop.
