Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

It totally make me more aero. I was mid-dismount but I think that is obvious.

"no". "I don't" "wear my bibs" "all day underneath" "when I" "stop and spend the day" "it's not that hard" "to change"

If my ride includes an extended stop or I'm going to visit somewhere, I'm always with a backpack or panniers or a saddlebag or handlebar bag...etc. I'll bring some food, a change of clothes, I'm sure you "get the picture". Sorry if that's not ridetonowherefornoreasonultimateroadiefixiedudeguy enough for you.

Sure man, that's totally deep bro. Totally makes me rethink my whole biking philosophy, thanks for the spiritual awakening. I'm gonna go ride my bike, naked, in circles now.

But hey man, is it a journey if you're not going anywhere, man? Or is it, like, just a bike ride, man?

You're reading me all wrong monk, I'm cool. Not so much defensive as annoyed by the roadie mentality that is prevalent in the last few pages of this thread. Anyways aren't you the guy who was shelling out the "helpful" advice about riding gear to begin with? Don't play coach if you don't want the label.

hey man i was just yankin' year tail pointlessly - no harm intended

im glad to help with my knowledge and experience anytime I can - and given my cycling inclination I will possibly chime in anytime the conversation veers in the direction of road riding, and road and track racing.

a member like yourself is for sure a better resource for discussion about things like commuting, touring, vintage bikes, and the cycling community in your general area. If anything it's good that we have such a diversity of cyclists in this forum (ss/fg).

Without trying to open up a can of worms, I don't completely understand why the roadie mentality bothers you - but I don't need to either. Different strokes for different folks.

The best way to get this thread back on the course you would like is to post pics of yourself doin' your thang (subject to ridicule of course - like everyone else). I would post more pics of myself riding in circles naked here but I don't have any and don't really care to.

Whoosaah, whoosaaah. Cool your jets there, turbo.

Sitting in your sweaty juices all day is proven to be bad for you, especially if you develop any kind of saddle sores. Infection works quickly and your humid jungle is a breeding ground for bacteria. There's an old racer's saying that basically amounts to: change into fresh kit as soon as possible after a ride. This isn't my opinion, it just science (biology, in this case).

Anywho, do yo thang, but don't get all defensive when people point out they would do it differently. This is the internet, afterall, and everyone's opinion is better than everyone else's. Mine included.

I don't think Cobrabyte is advocating for just marinating in your juices as long as you can, just sometimes after/during a ride there are breaks that take some time. I've never had a problem with saddle sores or anything. There is a messenger here that rides in bibs all day and after hangs out and drinks, it's really not the end of the world if you don't rush home to rinse em out.

Every friday I do a mellow city loop with my club. ~1:15 minutes of riding with another 30-45min of coffee and talking **** afterwards. I didn't say it's bad all the time, it's just a good idea to get into fresh kit whenever you can.

/shrug like I said, do yo thang.

I was kinda grossed out on my 24 hour event by the idea of being in the same bib the whole time. Must inquire what the seasoned guys do.

I don't think anyone denies that but sometimes it's not feasible, is all I'm saying.

i was simply asking a question. i quoted the part that was necessary.
I visited the ER with a golf ball sized saddle sore (just as hard as a golf ball, also) several years ago....and i don't wish that on anyone.
i'm as far from a "roadie" (quotes again, i know) as anyone i know.....i'm just a guy that rides bikes. all kinds.
