Attn Mike: New frameset idea for Bikes Direct

I know have ridden my unbranded Kilo TT for a few weeks now and I like the frame overall. It replaced my Dawes SST as I was not happy with the paint quality. Thank you Mike for the offer on it.

Now, Comparing the ride of the Kilo's Reynolds 520 and the Dawes 4130 is the same. Compared with the same, wheels, ties, saddle, bars, etc. The overall ride quality and stiffness feels the same.

Now the Kilo's geometry is Track based and the Dawes is road based and this is where my idea comes into play.

You were right on the overall paint durability with the Mercier and Moto frames being nicer (durable) compared to the Dawes frames. But I like long FG/SS riders and the geometry of the Dawes IMO is better suited for this.

What I would like to see is a frame/bike offered with the SST geometry, but the Kilo style fork and Mercier/Moto paint quality.

I guess it would be similar to a Moto Messenger, but with a flat crown or Track Style fork.
With a 1 1/8" HT

Kilo style Fork or one like this Painted to match:

Offered in drops or with Bullhorns.

I like my build, but I prefer the road or track geometry. I miss my Dawes for the geo and the color was stunning (dark green). But the Track geometry for longer riders sucks.

Maybe just get the Dawes SST frame produced with flat forks? But I would want a frame with better paint.

Again, thanks for the deal on the BI frame and keep up the good ideas when it comes to fun and affordable FG/SS Bikes.

Thanks for the input

Sample of new KILO WTF on the way
will meet many of your criteria

Longer
Takes Wider tires
Higher grade cranks, hubs, rims, comes with brakes

Complete bike kind of a cross between a Kilo TT Pro and a Surly Streamroller
with super nice fork, sugino crank, very nice wheels, and stock with 28c or 32c tires
but can fit 18c to 42c [maybe up to 45c]

still looking for color ideas on this one too

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BTW
anyone interested in really old school track with double top tube?
just a crazy idea
Nice!! I was was just thinking of a Steamroller. Any chance of just a frame? This would replace the BI Kilo ASAP!!
I want to run 32-42mm tires.
I was just thinking since it a 'Wide Tire Friendly' track bike that the name might fit
I admit it gets mixed reviews
Some LOVE IT
Some HATE IT
might need to take a safer route; we'll see
Why don't you just ask Surly for some FFF stickers while you are at it.
I like the name, too bad I already have a black kilo tt, If I was to pick up a WTF I would do some custom decal and just elaborate on the WTF, my bike would for sure have What The F@kc plastered on the side. could be a good or bad thing for BD advertising. I ride around a college town, so probably a good thing for you mike, by the way, I love the kilo, couple thousand miles and completely stock, I probably should find some wood to knock on.(hope not)
It should be on a steel frame if it flakes off easily or chips by breathing on it. There is this thing called rust!
I am excited by the prospect of a BD offering other than the Uno that will accept wider tires.
Fantom UNO has been selling great
and so has Jury frameset
and we sold streamroller fairly well [but price slowed it down]
So Kilo WT with a stock 32c tire and built to work well with 18c to 42c makes sense; I think it will be popular
We are going to use very nice components on this bike
and I hope it is level of most bikes that are $900 to $1000
and thus want to keep price under $500
Plus I need to find some great colors
I am liking the idea of Metalic Emerald Green
Plus may a Dark Gray, Glod, or maybe some Matts or Glitter
5 sizes - so might be able to do 3 or even 4 colors
I love color choices
