Urban Assult Ride-Nashville
I would like to get some ideas if anyone has been involved in a singlespeed urban assult ride. I figured it would be about 30+ miles and start in a suburb and travel towards town using the local greenways and a final approach towards the city on one of the main thouroughfares. It will be in October, cool enough to wear camos and facepaint. Is that too over the top? Suggestions welcomed.

Urban Assult Ride
Well, I hope to find more suggestions. If you know of anyone who is interested and has some opinions, I am open to it. October seems to be a good month with cooler weather and the threat of congestion on greenways on the downslide. I will be looking to see if the LBS will be interested in being involved in it but I seriously doubt it. There may be one, but my guess on the snobby lycra shops or chains that inhabit our city would find it unprofitable and therefore decline. However, my disclaimer to all this is that I plan to be wrong about my opinions until they prove me right.

I'd be down. Nice to see a few Nashville riders. We should make a thread in rides and races to see if we could get enough interest in a BFSSFG Nashville meet/ride.

Nashville's idea of a greenway is the strip between sides of the interstate.
Actually though, they have that bridge over the cumberland now near the skatepark. You can essentially ride from the skatepark at wave country to downtown now without having to be on anything too crazy. You have to go thru Inglewood and some on Gallatin Rd though i guess so you might get shot if you go on the wrong street.

What about during Thanksgiving, perhaps? Going in from Brentwood in the south, through some ritzy areas then downtown. Indian war paint would be a must.

O.K. O.K. I get it, no face paint.
I am totally laughing my ass off at the facepaint comment. I never knew a suggestion by someone other than myself would create so much laughter in my life. It was an I see I told you moment. Some U.T. college guy thought it would be cool. I think it was beer induced but, hey, who am I to judge. Any way as far as the greenways are concerned, there is a connector when you go under the bridge from the kroger parking lot going east. That greenway with a posted speed limit sign, no doubt, dumps you out onto Murphy road. This is a safe non-congested road to ride on. There are a couple of connected side streets that dump you out on to 31st ave and the worst part, if you are not the road riding type is riding Blakemore to 16th av going down to Demonbreun to 4th, going through the Schermerhorn and crossing the pedestrian bridge. The route continues on the Shelby bottoms greenway to the connector bridge that then connects to the stones river greenway and ends at the Percy Priest Dam. The friends I rode with took the opportunity to sprint on the big climbs, which I think there are three. If you have ridden those greenways, you know which ones I am talking about. I really appreciate the feedback and would like some ideas concerning getting the word out. Thanks for the the face paint and terrorist comments. They're great, keep em' coming, I print them and send them to him.

Anyone from Nashville ride an IRO? I just ordered a 56cm Mark V but I am having second thoughts that I should have gotten a 59. Let me know.

Urban assult ride
O.K. It's on! The Urban Assult Ride is scheduled for November 22, 2008. If you go to the website geocities.com/glennkamka you will get more info if you click the events tab on the home page. There will be only one stretch of pavement that will not be on a greenway and no, Nashville's idea of greenways is not a strip of road by an interstate. I think many of you who have not ridden on the greenway system will be pleasantly surprised how well they are laid out. If you go to the website and get the info, leave me an email and let me know what you think of it. I love rockin' the pavement with my singlespeed rig and I think that there needs to be a venue for this. I have seen what other cities have done with theirs and quite frankly, I feel that with enough participation and public showing, we could attract some interest from those who sponsor these events. I know it seems like a pipedream but, hey, I have seen more and more singlespeed/fixies out there and I think it would be cool to take a day to celebrate that and ride together and show off our rigs! Seeyou there!
