Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Fixed Gear Footage

Searched for a thread on this couldn't find anything... Post up your favorite clip or video

this one's mine (yes its from MASH), but this to me captures what it's all about, bombing hills, splitting lanes, skidding around turns, and just basically hauling ass through the city... (as opposed to bar spins and bmx tricks on track bikes)

What it's all about?

No helmet, no brakes, running lights. Ahh, yes, everything great about fixed riding.

Ain't you supposed to stop at the stop signs? Oh wait, you can't.

And then y'all complain that motorists don't give you any respect on the road.

Just kidding! Remember not to wear your helmet and just have fun!

Damn this is the kind of response I get... who else wants to join the hate train?

Okay so i've looked through the other thread, and there's tons of garbage... Cheesy bike commercials, reality shows that never were, and lots of crap that has nothing to do with fixed gears (russian kids doing handstands and flips off buildings).

Thought this could be a thread for some good videos (fixed gear specific).

I watch this particular video nearly everyday, it'd be nice to have some new ones to watch. Didn't realize I was working with such a tough crowd. I guess I'll leave it up to you guys to contribute, or close it.

Please explain the correlation between riding a track bike like a jackass in San Francisco to the sport of skateboarding.

is bombing hills on a skateboard in SF safe? no. Will you get called a jackass for doing it? quite possible. Is it cool, is it fun to do, is it fun to watch? yes, yes, and yes.

why should it be any different on a track bike?

No one said anything at all about personal safety. I could care less if those guys hit a pole.
Were talking about riding like an jackass. Were talking about swerving in traffic for no reason, riding on the wrong side of the road for no reason or regard to other people, and blowing redlights full speed, everyone else on the road be damned. That is the mash video in a nutshell.

Uhm, there is a reason, and it's to entertain. Stopping at lights and going 12 mph in a straight line is not very entertaining.

If some bonehead bombed through an intersection and nailed you while you were on the sidewalk locking up your bike, think you'd call him a jackass or would you say " Oh man, that FREAKING RULED!!!!" when you woke up from a concussion?

Some good riding in the one video, but some serious stupidity as well
