bikesdirect said you can use a 75mm reach front break, so this one would work...
https://www.velo-orange.com/diaco750cebr.html

and this one might...
https://www.velo-orange.com/ter5exlorebr.html

shouldn't be too, too bad. the old dia compe center pulls are decent brakes...

Mike@BD?

Why didn't you use canti's considering the reach requirement?

because they'd "look bad" if using calipers.

imo that's not a good enough reason, but you can't please them all. the phantom will probably be all this and more(we can hope)

I guess you could always build the frame up with 27" wheels and use brakes that are available.

Considering the blades are longer on the fork, would barspins be possible with the stock fork using a 28c or 25c tire?

Turns Out
a Standard R556 will work fine
I thought front might need the drop bolt; but it does not

So if running fixed with front - we are fine
{for rear we are waiting on drop bolt - plus optional longer brakes; which factory is supplying later}

That bike is hideous but I really like the frames. The chrome is beautiful.

I think you are right - the guys in the shop were just playing around in setting up some different colors

My self, I think I would like Chrome with Red or Blue trim - but Yellow or Orange might be nice too

Anyway, all the colors are good; but chrome is really nice

Frames are available now
complete bike will not be until next year

Whereas - Fantom Uno - bike will be available very soon
but frame not until next year

Sometimes; we bring frame first - most of the time bike first

What constitutes "very soon"? Haha I am rather impatient.

Promised sailing date on Fanton Cross Uno was July 1 -Every factory is running at least 30 days behind due to increaed bike demand.

I now expect Fantom Uno sailing next week - meaning arriving in early September

As soon as production is finished; they will FedEx me a bike
We will photo and put up for pre book

And I will post that here; so in case there is a complete sell out early on this bike; BF readers will get first shot

Bike will come in 49, 52, 54, 56, 58, 61, 64 and in BLACK or WHITE
I am excited to see it

I know about the price difference and more relaxed geometry, but if you want this frame with canti mounts, just take a look at a Cross-Check.

I'm going to wait for the Fantom Cross Uno...

hey Bikesdirect, do you have any pictures of the blue frame built up? from the pictures on bike island, i like the look, but it would be nice to see it with some tires and trim on it.

also will those R556s work on the front as normal with the fatter tires? or is this only fitting because of the skinnier tires? thanks!

I'm about to buy one of these for my wife and put a Nexus 8 internal geared hub on the back for her. This looks like a great bike.

Sorry
we do not have a Blue one built
But the color is the same as on The MESSENGER in BLUE [same color ID #]

R556 work on front with wide tires too
at least up to 38c [and maybe bigger]

I was hoping to get one of these as a SS utility/grocery getter/commuter, but the rear reach issue has kind of turned me off. I'm not really interested in the drop bolt. You mentioned a longer reach brake. Any more info on this?

Yeah, there's nothing like spending more on a brakeset than the frameset
