It's not all track bars and fast riding

I thought I would share a pic of a bike that I have had laying around and mounted on a trainer for a couple of years. I was thinking of selling it but decided to try to use it. I never liked the the look of the Bianchi Unicrown front forks on this bike and therefore never liked riding it on the street. I decided to do something with it that would make it more acceptable to ride in a different mode. What you see is the result. This is sort of a Townie fixed gear, with Fixed/Free Suzue NJS 32 hole hubs laced to Ma-3 rims. T.A. Cyclotourist 170mm cranks, 42-16(fixed)/18(Free) gearing, and MKS Track pedals. Brooks B-17 Saddle and Carridice Nelson Low Saddle Longflap bag. Nitto Stem and North Road Bars and Shimano brake levers and Campy side pull brakes. All of the parts were lying around from various bike experiments that went south and seemed to lend themself to usage in this instance. It provides a bike for the business of going to the store and general running around without the hunched over crouch that is part of the usual fixed gear scene. I now kind of like the bike as the fork is somewhat covered by the brake caliper. It makes for a very easy riding bike now.

Perfect for parking in front of the local coffee house (or greasy spoon in my case).

I've been thinking of building up a "knock around" bike, just need to find the right frame for conversion. Spring will soon be upon us (hope). The garage sales should be starting and I'll be prowling with a fist full of fivers.

I predict the appearance of an Ad-Bot

Looks like a fun bike to ride... I'm gonna do the same basic thing with my Centurion... right now it is a Single Speed... I'm thinkingof going fixed, but I definitely want to get more laid back bars, and a Brooks seat... pretty much outfit it like yours... just a simple grocery getter, coffee shop cruiser...

I'm digging it. I'm actually looking for an oldy but goody frame to outfit with a Sturmey Archer 3-speed. I don't really want an old gas pipe schwinn so I would love to build this up with a 531 frame if I can find one cheap. basically I want a bike with all NICE stuff on it except that it would have those same bars as on yours and use an SA s speed rear. Just enough to make thieves think it's an old piece of crap since I don't think three speeds are real hot these days for the kids to steal.
