random-getting ordained

One of my good friends has asked me to officiate at her wedding, to which i have agreed. Now i need to find out how to get ordained. i googled this and found no lack of sites that will ordain me online, but i really do not trust any of them. Also, my spiritual beliefs are a syncretization of W. African and Afro-Caribbean spirituality, with some N. and S. American indiginous thought sprinkled inas well, so i am not really sure that a bible based, non-denominatioal organization would be my huckleberry. Has anyone here ever been ordained??? Any thoughts??? Should i just start my own church/cult and go from there??? Tnx.
Ashe.

I've been ordained by them for many, many years and have officiated many, many weddings.

Enjoy!

EDIT: I am not religious in any way, shape, or form. I'm just an officiant, but the ULC fought to the Supreme Court and won in order to freely and legally ordain people.

before the internet, I was ordained through an ad in the back of the national enquirer. i still would need to register with the state to be able to legally marry anyone.

why be dogmatic about it--- just pick a site and go for it

At one time I was also ordained by World Christianship Ministries (or something like that) but that was done by mail and I never pay attention to that credential. Never hurts to be redundant.

Hah. No doubt.

So far, from the ULC, I am a Reverend, I hold an honorary Doctorate of Divinity degree, and I'm a Saint because I had 15 other people ordained.

I'm like... Saint Doctor Reverend Tim or something.

Hah!

Hey, to each their own. *I* can't make a marriage work (2x divorced) but if other people want to give it a shot, well, I can facilitate that.

By Catholic dogma, if memory serves, one cannot be a Saint until one has passed on. So I'm all cool with NOT tacking that one on to my name. At least not yet.

Not that I heed Catholic dogma myself, but there's no harm in covering all my bases. Heh.

Let's do try to keep this out of P&R. I think you guys can discuss the merits of getting frocked as a minister without it turning into an argument (I hope!). I'll trust you. If it turns into a this religion vs that one thread, though, I'll be forced to move it.

When I was still working as a social worker for the mental health service I became an ordained minister of the ULC. At the time it was a well considered and seriously made decision to become a minister and I must say that the ULC's spiritual principles are easy to live with and are wonderfully inclusive.
