Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Riding fixed gear is not very popular where I live and I hadn't really known much about it until I got acquainted with FGG, Sheldon Brown, and Bike Forums.

I expect that you did the right thing and seized their bicycles and banished them from ever riding fixed again.

You're right to be skeptical... I recommend instead taking it with around 67-74% seriousness.

I never registered here... until now! And I've been riding fixed for a few years now.
So, hi, everyone.

There are presently 20,610 active Bikeforums members. 464 members are online right now. 151 of those are in the SSFG forum.

So about 1/3 of Bikeforums posts are on this forum.

Does that mean 1/3 of all Bikeforums members ride fixed gear? No.
Does that mean that 1/3 of all cyclists ride fixed gear? Of course not.

How many of those 20,610 members signed on just to ask "how much is this bike worth"?

its pretty fun to go thru the list of members and see how many just have one or two posts asking,

1. What bike to buy
2. Is this a good bike
...

really now, the site is indexed by google - a simple web-search will likely answer the question.

seriously, i search the bike forums through google, because the results are better and more accurate and it brings up bikeforums content anyway.
