bar tape suggestions?
I have a honey Brooks b17 saddle and I am thinking about getting new bar tape to match it as close as possible. Right now I have orange bontrager tape (bike is orange), but I would like to see how leather tape in honey color looks (anyone?)
I dont want to spend the $55 + on brooks tape, and I came across the velo-orange honey leather tape. Anyone have this? How do you like it? (http://www.velo-orange.com/veorlehata.html) Here is the bike for reference. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...7/IMG_2056.jpg I'm thinking about repainting the bike black for a more subtle look, so I would like the tape to match the saddle. Either way I think it would look good. thanks |

Natural cork or yellow cloth tape + amber shellac works best match wise. Durable, feels good (I prefer the cloth to cork with this method), and looks great. Just wrap it with the yellow cloth tape (or put it over cork if you want some padding) and then put 8-10 coats of shellac on it. |
thats the look im going for. Thanks for the picture.

It's a bunch of different flash locations over three different exposures. Back on topic, if you want to be really classy with that bike: http://www.velo-orange.com/toptupr.html |
I found yellow cloth bar tape, but I am having trouble finding amber shellac. Any suggestions?
never mind... velo-orange. |

its ordered. Ill post up how it comes out.

You should get clips and straps before worrying about bar tape.
|
Don't paint it!!! It loots great!
|
I also suggest that you lose the neckerchief and add foot retention. More on topic, shellac + yellow cloth tape does work great. Shellac over neon pink is another nice combination. No kidding, it produces a really nice vibrant shade of brown.

my advice is to not try and be matchy-matchy with bar tape and saddle. make them different - like white tape and the honey brooks. both would look great with an orange bike.

As far as foot retention goes, I removed the original clips and straps from the peddles when I bought the bike from a garage sale. I have always hated straps since they are annoying to get your feet both in and out (more importantly out, as I fell one time from not being able to put my foot down when going real slow). I may be willing to give them another try, as Ive been riding the bike for a long time now and I'm used to riding FG. Thanks for the comments. |
