Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Boston drivers are predictable and used to driving around cyclists.

However.

They are predictable in their own way. Don't expect to see a lot of turn signals. They will try to run you down, right-hook you, left-hook you, door you, and harm you in a multitude of ways. Much like elsewhere, but depending on where you're coming in from, they can be some of the most ******* drivers on the road. They can deal with cyclists, but not with particular courtesy. Note that most cars in Boston have dents and scrapes in the bodywork from them dealing with other cars. Think about the same car interacting with you on your bike the same way they interact with other cars...

Find Bukowski's over by the Pru/Berkeley, stop in for a brew and maybe a cheap-ish meal.

carry your u-lock on a chain. If you need to whip it out and use it like they weapon they used in Ninja Assassin.

Unfortunately this is all the advice I can give you, its a hard world and you kill or be killed. I expect to see a pile of bodies. Good luck, Pat.
