Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

It took a while but I finally got it up and running. '81 bianchi track bike, cinelli bars, ambrosio stem, no name seatpost w/ beercan shim (for now), turbo saddle, ofmega headset, campy bb, 165 campy pista cranks w/ a campy 50t ring, campy high flange pista hubs (drilliumed), eai 19t cog, new dt swiss r1.1 clincher rims w/ some michelins I had sitting around. and campy sr pedals.

great looking frame + color. i'm not a fan of the blue grips/tape for some reason.

Yep. White (even dirty white to match the saddle) would look better.

Awesome.

Contrary to ZiP0082, I think the blue looks cool; it matches the "Bianchi" lettering. The white saddle, on the other hand, is what sticks out to me.

Just my $.02.

well part of the build was with "on hand" parts, I will look into getting some white grips eventually, or some cinelli white cork tape which will dirty up nicely. My thoughts w/ the blue tape were to match the blue bianchi decals and blue turbo lettering.

I like the bike, cept maybe for that saddle looks like an ogre ate it and crapped it out!
Maybe a Brooks Swift in honey? or a Brooks Swallow! Yeah!

Would a black rolls saddle look better? I also have a varnished looking, way-off-white cinelli saddle...

actually, great point -- a blue saddle on there would make it a seafoam/ocean theme, could be cool.

About the turbo, it's not dirty white leather, it's dirty white felt-like material (I forget the name).
I actually have a brown swallow on another bike, I may switch it over tonight.
Frame tube sizing is weird (but it rides good). TT is 54cm, ST is 55cm, but the headtube is 15cm like you would expect to see on a 56-58 cm frame...

Here's the other bike w/ the brown swallow, an '80 Silk Hope w/ super record and fat 32mm tires for commuting:

That's a hot bike, but I don't think I would want to roll on drillium hubs.

Apparently Schwinn "repurposed" the hubs back-in-the-day, they were originally intended for tandom paramounts. The drillium holes are slightly bigger than the spoke holes, since they were for larger tandom wheel spokes, as the story goes. Hopefully if there is hub failure it will be gradual and not catastrophic.
Here is a pic of the frame the campy pista parts came off of:

OP, I was gonna say... "nice conversion"... then i looked closer. NICE!

that bike is too nice for a brooks - get a miche supertype seatpost and a white specialized toupe or SI SLR..

well about the seatpost...still trying to determine size. It's not 27.2, I couldn't even get a 27.0 in, so what you see is a 26.8 w/ beercan shim. Going to the shop today to get it sorted out hopefully.

I like the worn Turbo. If you change it for anything, get a new white one. White keirin grips. Gumwall tires.

The pain would be finding the decals.
And convincing the kids it's not a Madison.

I thought someone might notice the paramount pic. I bought it as advertized, 21" frame (my size). It turned out to be a 23" frame (TT). Plus it had many numorous surface rust issues that I didn't want to sink more $ into, on a frame too big for me ( I guess I could of used a short little stubby stem though).
So I sold the paramount frame locally. The buyer has already powdercoated it, and obtained new decals.
He is my size also but doesn't mind riding a large frame.

I just want to re-iterate that there's something about that bike that's so simple and clean. I think it's the non-flashy colors and the simple Campy parts.
