Pista Lock

wondering if anyone with a pista locks up with the pitbull mini. If so is it big enough to lock back wheel and seat tube to a rack, meter or anything?

I have a Bulldog mini (same size) and a Pista and it locks up just fine back wheel and seat tube to a post, rack, etc. I could see it maybe being a problem if your wheel is far back in your track ends, but I've had no problems.

Back to the OP, there's no reason to lock your seat tube. Put the lock through the rim and the rear triangle of the frame and you're good.

No, there's a pretty good reason. It has to do with perception, psychology, and stupidity.

I'm Joe Crackhead. I'm just walking down the street, making people uncomfortable. Hello, a nice shiny bike locked up to a post. But what's this?! You only locked up the rear wheel you stupid hipster! I'll just leave the wheel behind and carry off the rest of your precious bike and sell it for 45 minutes' worth of crack!

Okay, got the rear wheel off, now I'll just... What the... Dammit, maybe if I... ahhh ****!

*kicks both your wheels in for no reason*

Piece of ****...

That was pretty good and so true. Thats why I asked if it fits around seat tube, wheel then object.

Ever since I started putting "great for your pista" in my CL and Ebay listings... things have been selling in 1/5th the time. They are like heely's and little kids. Or soccer moms and honda oddysee's, ford windstars, and chrysler town and countries.

No, but I've seen more than enough bent wheels on the street and heard enough horror stories to get the basic idea.

Me or the OP? I read seat tube, and I see no reason to lock the seat tube, nor am I convinced regarding hypothetical crack addicts.

is it really as easy to bend a wheel with a foot as some people seem to fear? because i've tried to trash a wheel before, it's not easy. i've seen wheels locked up by morons bent by cars, but never someone kicking it...

They just locked up a stolen bike "dealer" in Toronto who had been literally buying bikes for crack for upwards of 10 years. I've yet to have my wheels kicked in by an angry crackhead, but I'd say it's a possibility worth my consideration.

A leverage attack against your lock is also worth considering. Small locks will often only work around a rim and an anchoring object, depending on the bike and the object. The tight fit can be a very good thing. Car jacks trouble me more than crackheads who beat up bikes.
