'07 schwinn madison... making some adjustments

i recently purchased an '07 schwinn madison complete. i'm not really fond of the positioning of the brake levers. in fact, i'm not fond of drop bars, altogether. i'd like to change it up to either bullhorns or straights. i want to install brake levers near the stems. i'm looking for brands and possibly best practices for installation. he's a stock photo of the bike for reference:

here's a setup similar to what i would like, except i want to keep it single speed, rather than fixed:

    thanks in advance!

Benscycle will have some bars like you are looking for. But like str8flexed said, find a bmx lever that fits and go with that...

For the above, make sure you have a 26.0 mm stem. Good to go.

    You're welcome.

Those are tough bars to use cross levers on. When I have some rb021's on my single speed I had to clamp the levers by stem and then angle them down on a slant, so that I could press them when my hands were on the down sloped part of the bars.

You could use some risers with two cross levers. Another option.
